Boosting Visibility for a London Laundry Service

About the Client and Goals

  • Company: Hamlet Laundry Ltd.
  • Region: London, United Kingdom.
  • Goals: The primary objective was to enhance the website’s On-Site optimization to improve search engine rankings, increase organic traffic, and generate more customer inquiries.

Stages of Work

  1. Comprehensive Website Audit

A detailed audit was conducted, covering technical, on-page, commercial, and content aspects. The key findings and recommendations included:

  • Technical SEO:
    • Duplicate Content: Numerous blog pages were creating duplicate content issues, requiring the implementation of rel=»canonical» tags to point to the main service pages. Canonical tags on other key pages needed to be removed to ensure they were indexed correctly.
    • URL Structure & Redirects: Inconsistent URL structures (with and without trailing slashes «/») were identified. A 301 redirect was recommended to standardize all URLs to the non-slash version. SEF URLs for key business and service pages were also recommended for an update.
    • Crawlability: The robots.txt file was updated to optimize crawling budget and prevent indexing of non-essential pages like tags, login pages, and old blog archives. A new XML sitemap was generated to include all important service, hotel, and laundry shop pages.

  • On-Page SEO:
      • Meta Tags & Headings: A full update of meta tags (Title, Description, Keywords) and H1 tags was required for all relevant pages based on the new semantic core. The audit found improper use of H1-H6 tags, with some pages having too many or using them to mark up links, which needed correction.

    • Content & Internal Linking: The content uniqueness was analyzed, and recommendations were made to write new articles to improve relevance. A cross-page linking strategy was devised to distribute link equity, and instructions were given to add rel=»nofollow» to all outbound links on dry cleaner directory pages.

  • Commercial Factors & UX:
      • Contact & Trust Signals: Recommendations included adding more prominent contact numbers, messenger links (WhatsApp, Facebook), and implementing Schema.org micro-markup for contacts and services. Adding photos of staff and company history on the «About Us» page was also advised.

    • Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO): To improve user experience and conversions, recommendations were made to add a «Business Inquire» button on B2B pages, improve the layout of elements on mobile devices, add a «Back to Top» button, and rearrange content blocks on service pages.

  1. Semantic Core and Content Strategy
    • Keyword Research: A comprehensive semantic core was developed, identifying high-volume and long-tail keywords for each service category. This included terms like «laundry near me» (14,800 monthly searches), «dry cleaning» (90,500), and «shoes repair» (12,100).

    • Clustering: Keywords were grouped and assigned to specific landing pages, such as the Home Page, Pricing, Laundry Service, Dry Cleaning, and specialized B2B pages like «Laundry for Hotels & Motels» and «Laundry for Salons & Spas».

    • Content Implementation: Technical tasks for copywriters were created. These tasks provided clear instructions for keyword integration, H2 tag optimization, and internal linking to ensure content relevance and authority.

  1. On-Page Optimization and Implementation

Based on the audit and semantic core, a full-scale on-page optimization was planned:

  • Meta-Tag Templates: Standardized templates were created for different page types (Services, Hotels, Laundry Shops) to ensure consistency and keyword targeting.
    • Example for Service Pages:
      • Title: Laundry, Ironing & Dry Cleaning Services in [Area], London — Hamlet Laundry Ltd.
      • H1: Laundry Service in [Area].
      • Description: A standardized template was used to highlight key value propositions like «100% Happiness Guarantee» and «Great 718 Reviews on Google».
  • Page Structure: The website’s structure was refined to improve navigation and user flow, with clear parent and child pages for services like «Dry Cleaning Service» and its sub-page «Wedding Dress».

  • Internal Linking: A detailed plan for interlinking was created. Keywords in new articles were to be linked to their corresponding service pages to strengthen topical relevance and pass authority.

  1. Link Building

The initial audit revealed a backlink profile of 1,993 links from 190 domains.

  • Backlink Audit: An external link audit was performed to identify potentially harmful links. A list of low-quality donor domains was compiled for disavowal to mitigate the risk of Google Penguin sanctions. One specific recommendation was to delete an account on shoplinkz.com for this reason.

Results

  • Growth in Keyword Rankings (TOP-10):
    • «home laundry»: from position 48 to 1.
    • «local laundry services near me»: from 5 to 1.
    • «in home laundry services»: from 4 to 1.
    • «laundry company»: from 100 to 2.
    • «ironing service near me»: from 8 to 4.
    • «laundry near me»: from 15 to 6.
    • «laundry service»: from 24 to 8.
    • «laundry delivery»: from 10 to 9.

The positive movement in rankings for high-intent keywords demonstrates the direct impact of the technical fixes, content optimization, and semantic structuring.
